New Review! The Du Lac Chronicles (Book 1) by Mary Anne Yarde, 5 Cranky Stars

The Du Lac Chronicles (The Du Lac Chronicles, #1)The Du Lac Chronicles by Mary Anne Yarde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

Alden du Lac, king of Cerniw is the son of the legendary Lancelot of Camelot fame. He and 80 of his kinsmen are prisoners of Cerdic the Saxon, King of Wessex. Alden has been whipped to within an inch of his life and is awaiting his execution come sunrise when Annis of Wessex (Cerdic's daughter) cuts him down and spirits him away. They receive assistance from many people who are loyal to Aiden or the memory of his father, Lancelot.

Alden is told to send Annis back to her father as no one trusts her. He refuses and after much betrayal and treachery they end up in Brittany at Budics castle (Alden's half brother) where they hope to find protection and help from Budic's army.

I was entranced by this book (I have always been a fan of Camelot, Arthur and the knights of the Round table) it is a harsh world where people are power hunger and take what they want, teenagers become kings and husbands and wives and 25 is considered middle aged.

The author did an awesome job of research and the book is filled with authentic characters, much action, treachery and betrayal and if you are a fan of the era it is a must read.
