New Review! Oppression by Jessica Therrien, 4 Cranky Stars

Oppression (Children of the Gods, #1)Oppression by Jessica Therrien
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

At 89, Elyse looks and feels like an 18 year old. She ages five times slower than everyone else. She lost her parents when she was 50, before they were able to tell her why they were different. When she loses her adopted mother, she moves to San Francisco where she meets William who informs her that she is a Descendant, and that there was a large community of people like her right in San Francisco and in several other cities.

Descendants are the descendants of the erstwhile Olympian gods and have abilities inherited from them depending on their bloodline. Elyse finds out that she is the last healer and the pivotal to a prophesy to release the descendants from the clutches of the oppressive council of six led by the unsavory Christof.

This first book is very much a world building and introductory effort and despite the enormous cast, the author managed to captivate my interest and keep it.

I happily award this book 4 stars
