New Review! A Reason to Kill (Reason, #2) by C.P. Smith, 5 Cranky Stars

A Reason to Kill (Reason, #2)A Reason to Kill by C.P. Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars!

What a fun read! Not something I would usually say about a murder mystery, but if you take a chance on this one, you will definitely understand where I am coming from. Some of the characters are absolute, well, characters. The dialogue is witty as well. And the murders are actually very well laid out with surprise twists and turns until the true culprit is caught.

Set in Alaska, Mia and a group of her peers are sent to check up on her company's environmental study of bears. Mia is thrilled to make the trip, not only because of her love of the bears, but also because her boss, who she made the mistake of dating a few times, will not be there. Upon their arrival in town, she immediately is smitten with the most handsome lumberjack imaginable, in a town full of very attractive men of similar persuasion. Although the lumber-sexual movement is lost on me personally, the chemistry between the two is as well written as is the way they annoy one another - which is quite thoroughly.

Starting with drunken karaoke, moving through many mishaps of a not very graceful Mia, an axe throwing contest, memorable townfolk who will keep you laughing long after you finish reading the book (I dare you to try to forget the two women of retirement age who run a passion party business), a surly sheriff set on prosecuting Mia for the two murders, the "vet", and the love that develops between the hero and heroine, this book has wonderfully written characters and settings filled with comedic lightheartedness in the midst of some very serious danger.

This was the first book I've read by C P Smith, but most certainly won't be the last! I've already got another one downloaded and near the top of my TBR list.

We recommend this book to most anyone.
