New Review! Phase by Michelle Irwin, 5 Cranky Stars

Phase (Phoebe Reede: The Untold Story, #1)Phase by Michelle Irwin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

I highly recommend that you read the Declan series first to get the full effect of Phase.

Speed, Sexy, Soulful, Sensual and Sensitive. So many "S" words come to mind when thinking of this book. Phoebe is all grown up and struggling with so many different issues. Racing cars is her passion and she just discovered the freedom her motorcycle gives her.

She's constantly compared to her daddy, the great Declan Reede racing superstar. Her eyes, driving style, attitude and looks are just like her daddy too. The problem is that she's questioning who she is beyond her daddy's legacy.

At 17 years old, Phoebe is a true talent on and off the track. She rebels like any teenager would trying to find who she really is and how she fits in this world. On a mission with her BFF Angel they head to the states. What started out as a fun trip of self discovery, quickly turns into her discovering more than the sites she visits.

Beau is a cowboy with a heart of gold. He has ingrained morals and values that will make any woman swoon. There's only one thing that could make him weak and that's the turquoise eyed beauty he bumped into by chance.

This is a coming of age story that rivals all others I've read. Michelle Irwin is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. The way she puts real emotions into her stories makes them addicting. I will warn you that the ending will leave you begging for more. This Cranky reader highly recommends this.

New from J.B. Hartnett!

Watching the Sky Cry is an beautifully written,
emotional story releasing Fall 2016!

Add to your TBR at:

Ten years is a long time when you’re thirty-two. We’d seen our share of ups and downs, but I could honestly say, they were mostly up. That’s the thing about happiness though. It lulls you into a false sense of security.

Neither one of us ever thought we’d ever be touched by crippling loss or immeasurable grief. But not all stories have a happy ending, and I knew, better than anyone, that sometimes, one of you won’t make it till the end. One of you has to go first. And one of you will be left behind to pick up the pieces.

That one is me.

But starting over isn’t what I thought it would be. I need escape from the memories that plague me, remind me. So I went back to where it all began. To the town where I was born. To the place whose beauty could pierce my pain. Where I experienced my first kiss, where I fell in love, where a man was my earth. And I…

I was his sky.

About the Author:

Julie is a southern California native, a fan of a really good story (preferably a romance with a happily ever after), really good pie (preferably pumpkin)and copious amounts of coffee (preferably Folgers).

She has always enjoyed writing and at one time thought she might be a singer/songwriter. The 'writer' part is that one that stuck.

Julie is obsessed with Pi...the equation and the food. She's allergic to cats, cantaloupe and hates mushrooms. So if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure.

She currently lives with her romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.

New Review and Release Boost! Blind by Xavier Neal, 4 Cranky Stars

Release Boost

Aside from being blind to the fact his best friend, Maxx Hughes, is madly in love with him, Logan 'Unbreakable' Kellar has it made. He's the best amateur fighter at TKO, has a buffet line of women desperate to be taken by him, and three friends that are his family. However, when Maxx crosses over from Logan's blind spot on the side lines to the dead center of his vision, he realizes that he can't stay blind to the fact this girl, is the girl.

Blind (Senses #1)Blind by Xavier Neal
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

Blind is the perfect title to this book. The drop dead sexy as sin fighter in one corner and the devastatingly beautiful and curvy book nerd in the other. The only problem is that even when the bell rings they're both to blind to fight for each other.

Maxx has lived as a shell of her true self. She's the ultimate book nerd. Even her t-shirts say so. Her dream is to be an events coordinator, oh and to be loved back by Logan of course.

Logan is an underground fighter. He's "Unbreakable" in the ring yet totally broken. He's loved Maxx for years. She's his best friend and roommate. Only one problem, Logan doesn't do relationships.

This is a cute and quirky story of unrequited love. I loved the subtext of what was going on in their heads. Of course, it never quite matched what they said which made for some great comedy. All of the characters in this story have experienced tragedy yet they all deal with it in different ways.

I look forward to reading the next book as this one definitely leaves you hanging.

Xavier Neal is an author that this reader intends to stalk without remorse.

Blear (A Senses Series Companion Novel)

However, when their family vacation takes several unexpected turns, unforeseen decisions will have to be made. Will Logan be able to take the sucker punches life throws or will everything he knows as family become just a blear?

New Review! Until We Collide by Charlotte Fallowfield, 4 Cranky Stars

Until We CollideUntil We Collide by Charlotte Fallowfield
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

Promoted as Brit Rom-Com at its finest and for Bridget Jones’ fans, I picked this up, and think it’s a pretty fair assessment.

Our heroine, Paige “Calamity” Taylor has been in love with Alec Wright, (Mr. Right) forever. Paige is a sweetheart… an accident prone, oblivious, toe-curling-cringe-inducing sweetheart, but a lovely girl nonetheless.

The story starts with a young, teenage Paige in love with Alec and trying to impress him at a Young Farmer’s event. Paige, the townie, has a rather scatological encounter with a cow called Daisy, thus setting the scene for our accident-prone lead.

To top it off, Alec is taken and although there is obvious chemistry between the two, their bad-timing unleashes a catalogue of disasters, both separately and together.

Until We Collide follows Paige from teen years into adulthood, where she and Alec are always on the brink, but something gets in the way. It’s a little bit like the film Serendipity where the fate of our leads is left in the hands of the gods.

I liked this story. It’s a good, clean, fun, and feel-good romance. Parts of made me laugh and cringe. Other parts made me frown… there came a point where I was exasperated with the two leads because it didn’t make any sense for them not to be together. Sure, there is always an element of suspending belief in fiction, but this took it to the endth degree.

I also found it difficult to locate this work in a timeframe. Sometimes, Paige the teenager sounded thirty years old, including some pop cultural references, and then Paige the adult sounded teenage-ish with contemporary indicators.

In saying that, I really did like Paige and Alec. Poppie, Paige’s best friend, was a great addition. If you’re looking for a good, fun, and clean read, pick this up and have a laugh.

Also, loved the Epilogue. #Epilogues rule.

New Review! Wait by A.L. Jackson, 5 Cranky Stars

Wait (Bleeding Stars, #4)Wait by A.L. Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

The boys of Sunder are stealing my heart again. Wait. Do you hear that? It's my heart breaking. Wait. Do you hear that? Its my heart singing with happiness.

I've waited awhile for Austin's story. Since book one we've got to see into his messy past. He shoulders so much guilt over a childhood tragedy that wasn't his fault. Sex, drugs and rock and roll drown his sorrows and guilt. He takes off running hoping to find himself.

His best friend Edie is mending from traumas of her own. They meet in a dark room where he holds her every night to protect her from her dreams. Tragic things happen to Edie. She's forced to grow up at such a young age. She runs hoping to find herself and push her past away. She makes friends in Blaire and Jeb.

Which can I say poor Jeb. He sings to her soul. Hers calls to him like a siren. This is their story and how they came back together despite the past making a nasty reappearance and facing it head on so they can heal.

I love A.L. Jackson's words. She writes with such heart. You feel for Austin and Edie and even those caught in the wake. I've always loved this series since Baz (Austin's brother and lead singer of Sunder). Its so full of heart and soul and you can't help but cheer them on. You want that happy ending for them even if they have a bumpy road ahead. So don't WAIT to pick up this beautifully written series.
